Good news for aspiring homeowners: today is the easiest it’s been in over 10 years to get approved for a mortgage, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association.
Data published by the Mortgage Bankers Association shows mortgage availability at an 11-year high. November’s Mortgage Credit Availability Index was the third-highest since the mortgage crisis.
One indicator for the positive news may be relaxing credit standards. The metric also shows which loans were most widely used. Private mortgages and conventional loans saw the greatest increase, but FHA, VA and USDA loans increased, as well. Jumbo loan usage also increased, the data showed.
The numbers are continually favoring buyers, especially as mortgage rates hover around historic lows.
