Hawaii is widely known as one of the best places to visit for vacation, but did you know it is also considered the best place to live in the U.S.?

A recent study ranked the top 10 states in the country to live, and Hawaii ranked No. 1. You may be thinking, “of course Hawaii is a great place to live, it has beaches!” While yes, the physical environment is a key factor in what makes Hawaii a good place to set down roots, the study also factored in things such as health, air quality, well-being and the state’s decreasing crime rate, which bumped it up from No. 2 last year. In fact, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Hawaii has the least amount of preventable hospitalizations than anywhere else in the country, and the air quality takes the top spot as well.

Hawaii finished just ahead of Vermont (No. 2) and Minnesota (No. 3).

The key factors used in the rankings include the quality of the environment, local attractions, the rate of crime and inclusiveness.
